WEL Networks were constructing a new Transmission line to connect the wind farm at Te Uku (10km South East of Raglan) to WEL’s Network at the Te Kowhai Substation, a route length of approximately 17km consisting of mainly steel poles installed on concrete pile foundations. The construction works were already underway when it became clear that they needed additional support to meet agreed targets. Significant penalties could have been imposed if the line build was not completed on time.
It was at that point that WEL called on Edison to deliver the following services:
- Provide Project Management services for the delivery of Te Uku Wind farm Transmission Line Build Project
- Provide Technical Support as required
- Work as part of the team to deliver the project on time, within budget and to a world class standard
Edison immediately put into place a daily monitoring programme before focusing on assisting the contractor to help them get the project completed on time without compromising on safety or quality. Alongside the Project Management of the line build, solutions to numerous technical obstacles were provided as well as liaison with all affected parties.
"The project had already commenced and it was becoming evident that additional resources would be required to assist the project team to ensure the project was delivered on time and on budget.
Within two days of us making this decision Edison were able to provide Project Management support which was able to deliver immediate onsite technical support and supervision of the line build contract. This ability to react so swiftly and effectively impressed both Meridian and the Alliance Leadership Team and instilled confidence in our ability to ensure WEL’s commitment to deliver the entire project would be met."
