Transpower’s project to replace aging primary and secondary outdoor equipment at the Mt Roskill substation saw Edison deploy a multi-disciplinary team, contributing breadth and depth of industry experience to support project delivery.

Transpower commenced an upgrade of the primary and secondary outdoor equipment at the Mt Roskill substation to meet their current design standards, implement robust technology and increase safety features. The project included multiple design and construction packages utilising different contract forms including a 3910 Civil Contract and Transpower FIDIC style electrical contracts.

Edison was engaged by Transpower for a number of roles to support project delivery, acting as the Engineer’s Representative for the civil building works and technical support and advisor to the Project Manager for the electrical installation works. Additionally, Edison provided testing and commissioning support for the multi staged project.

Our Solution

Assembling a multi-disciplinary project team, Edison supported the Transpower Project Manager and completed a range of services to achieve the project objectives. The depth and breadth of industry experience held by the team contributed the following:

  • Engineers Representative: Independent and impartial contractual support role across project civil design and construction of the new 22 kV switchroom.
  • Technical Expert(s): Provision of technical support aimed at project quality management and leading the prevention of technical and quality control issues.
  • Commissioning Engineer: Independent commissioning support.
  • Construction Management: Integration of significant additional work to replace a 110 / 22 kV transformer in the middle of the overall project programme.
  • Stakeholder Management: Edison was able to draw on strong relationships with Transpower, Vector and the Contractors to provide supporting expertise and facilitate effective stakeholder engagement and smooth project delivery.

Edison’s breadth of experience in the electricity supply industry resulted in our team being able to provide targeted support on the project utilising our multi-disciplinary team.
