PowerCo’s client, Tatua Co-operative Dairy Company, had reached a point where it was exceeding the capacity available from Powerco’s existing 11kV distribution supply line. As part of the overall asset strategy, PowerCo had specifically located the onsite switchboard within close proximity to its existing 33kV network, allowing a 33kV to 11kV supply option when required.
In order to deliver the increased capacity and a more robust supply to Tatua, PowerCo specified a 33kV substation be built at the Tatua site. This also required the retrofitting of CTs and new SEL relays to the existing 11kV board.
PowerCo and Edison worked together to break the project down into three specific areas which were put out to competitive tender, covering:
- Detailed Design
- Civil Installation
- Electrical Installation
Edison’s role was to monitor and manage all aspects of the on-site works to help keep the project running as smoothly as possible.
As with any existing site and customer supply point, planning the configuration, coordinating the site access and minimizing outages is a critical part of this process.
The three organizations worked to establish an effective approach to facilitate the construction and changeover of supply with minimal disruption to business as usual.
“Once again, Edison coordinated the Design, Civil works and Electrical works to ensure the customer timelines and expectations were accepted, keeping everyone in the loop until changeover to the new supply was completed."
