Rodrigo Oliveira | My Edison Experience

Rodrigo Oliveira has been fascinated by electricity since childhood. Inspired by his father, an electrical designer, he’s built a career defined by curiosity, lifelong learning, and the drive to deliver meaningful outcomes.

A passion that started early

I’ve been passionate about electricity since I was 14. My father was an exceptional electrical designer, and he inspired me to follow this path. What I love most is that the field is always evolving. Just when you think you’ve mastered something, there’s more to learn. There’s no such thing as routine in this profession, and that keeps me engaged and challenged.

Powering the future

When I think about what surprises people most about my career, I often mention the old cartoon The Jetsons. What once seemed futuristic - drones, robots, smart homes - is now part of everyday life. The common thread is electricity. That’s what makes this industry so exciting. It’s not just about cables and circuits; it’s about powering the future. Every day, we work on technology that is helping to build the future.

A culture of belonging

Edison brings together people from all over the world, and that diversity makes a huge difference. As someone who moved to New Zealand to start a new chapter, I appreciate working in a team with people who have been through a similar journey. It makes me feel closer to my home country, Brazil. Everyone is approachable, from new graduates to senior leaders. It feels like an open team environment where I feel valued.

Values that connect us

Edison’s values aren’t just words. They shape how we work together every day. For me, it’s about giving your best, supporting your teammates, sharing experiences, and knowing the leadership team is right there with you. That’s what brings the values to life.

Growing every day

At Edison, growth happens naturally, and career development is more than a plan. I learn something new every day from colleagues with different skills and experiences. There’s room to take on new challenges and expand my capabilities. If I show initiative and deliver quality work, new opportunities will come.

Advice for future engineers

Start with the basics and what interests you. Explore, learn, and talk with more experienced people to learn about their career journeys. Even short technical courses can open big doors. Keep improving and never stop learning - that’s the key to building a solid and rewarding career.
