Transpower is conducting a major project to replace the ‘live’ substation at Karapiro. To mitigate the risk of loss of supply to rural communities, a bypass was built at Hinuera to ensure supply is maintained whilst the re-configuration works at the Karapiro substation are completed. The Hinuera bypass was successfully commissioned in June. Edison are actively involved in this ongoing project, providing collaborative resources in the following areas:
