This year’s Muddy Gumboots six-hour mountain bike race in Christchurch, where Edison fielded a team for the first time, was exhilarating. The team of four, consisting of David Webb, Richard Kingsford, Henry Sommerville and Dylan Webb demonstrated their preparation and teamwork. Competing in the Corporate Mixed Social Civil and Construction category, Edison secured 1st place out of 45 teams. The team also achieved 3rd place in the overall Mixed section out of 105 teams.
The six-hour relay format required the team to be efficient during rider interchange and support each other to achieve a great result. Sporting a team kit featuring Edison’s unmistakable orange branding, the team worked together seamlessly, embodying the company’s values of can-do attitude, open communication and positivity.
The race route, known for its high-speed open straights, tight twisty sections, congested hairpin corners and scenic views, allowed the team to push their limits and support one another throughout the day. Over six hours the team completed 14 laps, leaving a little time on the table for next year and totalling 154 km – the equivalent of riding from Taupo to Hastings!
“It was an incredibly fun day of strategy, teamwork and support, both on and off the bike,” said Henry, the team captain. “It was mid-race before we were in with a shot at the podium, then pushing each other to keep going and celebrated the win.”
Thanks to Dylan Webb for stepping in as a last minute team entrant.
