Investing in the next generation is critical to the future of New Zealand’s electricity sector, which is why Edison welcomed the opportunity to attend the recent Aruhiko PEET Scholar Awards Ceremony in Auckland.
Representing Edison were Design Team Leaders Terrence Ibasco and Aman Kumar, who joined scholars, industry representatives and educators at the October awards ceremony. As a supporting member of Aruhiko Power Engineering Excellence Trust (PEET), Edison values opportunities to support initiatives that help develop New Zealand's future power engineering workforce.
Established in 2002, Aruhiko PEET was created in response to declining power engineering enrolments and the need to build a stronger pipeline of talent for New Zealand's electricity sector. Today, the programme connects students from the University of Auckland and University of Canterbury with scholarships, industry professionals and real-world experiences that complement their academic studies.
“One of the strengths of the programme is the exposure it gives students to the industry beyond the classroom,” said David Humm, Aruhiko PEET Manager. “Through site visits, industry engagement and direct interaction with professionals, scholars gain a much broader understanding of the opportunities available across the electricity supply sector.”
“Meeting the scholars was a highlight of the evening,” said Terrence Ibasco. “The calibre of talent coming through is impressive, and it's encouraging to see so many students excited about a career in power engineering.”
Congratulations to all scholars recognised at this year's awards ceremony. We look forward to seeing the impact they make on New Zealand's energy future.
