Northland gets a new indoor substation, Edison delivers at Benmore, we celebrate two long serving team members passing a major milestone and our Wellington Delivery Team have moved office. Plus if you're looking to further your career as a Substation Engineer we have a vacancy in Tauranga.
Top Energy Limited owns and operates the electricity distribution network in the Far North distributing power to approximately 30,800 consumer connections in an area of close to 7,000 sq. km. Top Energy also own and operate a 110/33kV substation at Kaikohe, which provides a grid connection for the Ngawha geothermal power station and a distribution point for the Bay of Islands and Southern Hokianga regions.
Edison's Mark Vincent is integral to the conversion of the aged 33kV outdoor substation to a purpose built indoor 33kV facility providing complete project management with the design and construction work by Northpower. The new substation has been constructed over the last 6 months with all of the new 33kV circuits now commissioned. The next phase of the project is the relocation of the 33kV/11kV transformers to better configure the site to accommodate future developments.
Plant provider Siemens Australia engaged Edison to site manage a project at Benmore Substation with an emphasis of safety management. By providing overall coordination of all the work streams associated with the installation of Pole 3, Wellington based Gerald Dignan was part of a team that successfully completed the transformer swap and outage 4 days ahead of schedule with no safety incidents - a great result that prompted congratulatory emails from Transpower, Siemens AG Energy Sector in Germany and this from Operational Delivery Manager Neil Gibbs on behalf of Siemens Australia.
'an excellent job all round. You can be proud of the skills and effort you applied over the past 2 weeks and the results that were achieved.'

Recently two of our staff passed an important anniversary. Our sincere congratulations to Louise Meiklejohn and Aaron Coombes on 10 years with Edison Consulting Group. Onboard since 2004 they have been crucial in helping the company evolve from 5 staff in two locations to our current team of 35 good people in five locations. Thank you Aaron and Louise.
Project Manager Aaron is based in Hamilton but his role has seen him covering much of the North Island with projects for Transpower, PowerCo and Wel Networks. Aaron's strength lies in construction management particularly that of transmission lines.
Aaron has recently completed 3 years of Contract Management and Landowner Liaison for Transpower on the Wairakei - Whakamaru C Line - 106 towers spread over 40 km. New assignments such as 5 x Zone Substation Projects for Unison and another 5 Network Upgrade Projects with Counties Power will continue to keep Aaron busy in the coming months.
A central member of the team Aaron is also a family man with three children who enjoys duck shooting, fishing and coaching rugby along with the odd beer.
