Overhead Line Design Engineer

Could be based in Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga or Wellington, New Zealand

Due to our continued growth, we require an experienced Overhead Line Design Engineer. The successful appointee will join our dynamic team committed to engineering excellence and customer satisfaction. This role could be based out of any of nationwide offices.

This role involves:

  • Concept and detailed design for 11-110 kV overhead lines
  • Field inspection of existing overhead lines
  • Establishment of new line routes
  • Modelling in CATAN, PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE
  • Development of route plan and profile drawing in AutoCAD
  • Preparation of pole and cross arm assembly drawings
  • Preparation of material schedules
  • Loading and design calculations
  • Development of detailed design reports and certificates

The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of distribution and sub-transmission line design for new lines, relocations, upgrades, and fiber optic additions.

The role covers all aspects of design for high voltage overhead line projects including line routing, structure spotting, structural analysis and design, foundation design, insulator and hardware selection, conductor and shield wire selection, material specification and technical support for construction.

The tertiary qualified candidate should have exposure to utility standards, the ability to use design software packages, and general construction knowledge and aptitude.

The candidate should be able to work in design teams as well as be self-motivated to perform assigned tasks. Because the candidate will be expected to deal directly with clients, he or she must have strong command of the English language and possess good written and oral communications skills. Some travel should be expected.
